Effective date: 8 August 2026 · Last updated: 8 August 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and Jacob Spitale (“we”, “us”) covering your use of the Slate Mate mobile application. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Slate Mate. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You may not use the app if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. Please tell us promptly at slatemate.app.legal@gmail.com if you believe your account has been used without your permission. Do not create an account for anyone else, impersonate another person, or use a display name or photo you have no right to use.
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Slate Mate on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, rent, resell, or create derivative works from the app, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
Your reviews, ratings, gut takes, list entries, display name, and photos are yours. You keep ownership of them.
To run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your content strictly for the purpose of operating Slate Mate and showing your content to the people you have chosen to show it to. This licence exists only so that the app can function; it does not permit us to publish, sell, or promote your content elsewhere, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
You are responsible for what you post. You confirm that you have the rights to any content you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Slate Mate lets you write reviews and share them with other people. There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You agree not to post, upload, or transmit anything that:
These rules apply to every part of the app that another person can see — reviews, gut takes, display names, group names, profile photos, and group photos.
If you encounter content or behaviour that breaks the rules in section 5, report it to slatemate.app.legal@gmail.com with enough detail to identify it — ideally a screenshot, the display name of the person involved, and the group it appeared in. We aim to review every report and act on it within 24 hours. Acting on a report may mean removing the content, warning the person, or removing their account entirely.
You can also act immediately yourself, without waiting for us:
We may remove content, suspend, or terminate an account at any time for a breach of these Terms, and we will do so without notice where the content is seriously harmful.
Movie titles, posters, artwork, cast information, synopses, runtimes, and recommendations are supplied by The Movie Database (TMDB) and remain the property of TMDB or its licensors. We do not control that data and cannot guarantee that it is accurate or complete.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Slate Mate does not host, stream, provide, or link to any film. It records what you say you have watched. It is not affiliated with any studio, distributor, or streaming service.
Slate Mate is provided free of charge and is developed by one person in their own time. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it, and we do not promise any particular uptime. Where we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice in the app so you can record anything you want to keep.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Slate Mate is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of data loss, or that any defect will be corrected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or use, arising out of or connected with your use of Slate Mate, even if we have been advised of the possibility. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the app will not exceed fifty US dollars (US$50).
Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jacob Spitale from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from content you post, your use of the app, or your breach of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.
You may stop using Slate Mate at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms. Sections 4 (as to content already deleted), 9, 10, 11, and 14 survive termination.
The following apply because Slate Mate is distributed through the App Store:
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts located in that state will have exclusive jurisdiction — except where the law of your country of residence requires that its own law and courts apply to you as a consumer.
We may update these Terms. The “last updated” date above will change, and material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Slate Mate after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
